VMFA Events

When we have clients who are new to the area, we often suggest they pay a visit to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Whether you're an experienced artist or a casual observer, the VMFA is a wonderful place to appreciate art. The museum also hosts a number of public events throughout the year. Here are a few upcoming VMFA events that our real estate agents are excited about.

  • Radical Jewelry Makeover Pop-Up
The Radical Jewelry Makeover Pop-Up is an event at which students from VCU sell jewelry that they have fixed up, remade, and made over. There will be a bit of everything, from vintage necklaces to creative, beaded bracelets.

At this pop-up, you can also talk to participating students about each piece of jewelry for sale. All are welcome to attend; there's no need to register for the event. It will be open on Friday, April 5, between 11 and 7 pm and April 6 and 7, between 11 am and 4 pm.

  • Pour a Painting
Have you ever wanted to experiment with new and different painting techniques? Here's your chance. Pour a Painting is scheduled for Saturday, April 6, between 10 am and 4 pm.

Taught by Kendra Wadsworth, this class will teach you how to use acrylic paints to create gorgeous, poured paintings. Participants should bring their own canvases and paint. There is a fee of $90 to attend the class, and you can register on the VMFA website.

  • Sensational Me
If you have a little one between the ages of 3 and 14 months, then this is the perfect event for you to attend. Sensational Me is a class focused on developing your baby's senses with your guidance. The class leader will guide you through a sensory tour, storytime, and a simple art project.

Sensational Me is scheduled for Monday, April 8, between 10:30 and 11:30 am. There is a fee of $22 per adult-child pair, and pre-registration is required.

  • Fast, Slow, Art We Go!
For toddlers ages 15 - 30 months, Fast, Slow, Art We Go! Is an incredible class to attend. The class focuses on movement and spacial concepts while teaching kids how to draw and create in three dimensions. Adults are likely to learn a little something, too.

This event is scheduled for Thursday, April 11, with additional classes on April 18, April 25, and May 2. All classes begin at 10:30 and last about an hour. The fee is $22 per child.

  • Samurai Opening Reception
The Samurai Opening Reception is a welcoming reception in celebration of the art of Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller. You can admire these creations as they are newly put on display at VMFA. There will also be cocktails and appetizers served.

This event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, at 6:00 pm. See the VMFA website for details regarding registration. There will be a related talk about the Samurai Armor collection at 5 pm on Wednesday, April 17.

The VMFA is located at 200 N. Arthur Ashe Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23220. Parking is free for members and $6 per day for non-members. The parking lot entrance is at the corner of Sheppard Street and Stuart Ave. While most of the events above have a registration fee, you can visit the museum for free at any time. It's open daily from 10 am - 5 pm and stays open until 9 pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Whether you attend one of the events above or visit the VMFA on your own time, we hope you enjoy your visit. Don't hesitate to contact us if you're looking for Richmond homes for sale nearby.
