Reading Programs Richmond

Our REALTORS® never get tired of singing the praises of our local libraries here in Richmond. They're amazing resources for the local community, and with a wide range of fun events and programs coming up this month, now is a great time to take advantage of all they have to offer.

The Richmond Public Library currently has nine locations throughout the city, including the main branch in Downtown Richmond as well as satellite branches in neighborhoods ranging from Belmont and Broad Rock to West End and Westover Hills. Here's what you can look forward to at your local Richmond libraries this February:

  • Black Movie Monday at the Hull Street Branch - 1400 Hull St, Richmond, VA 23224
February is Black History Month, and the Richmond Public Library's Hull Street Branch is marking the occasion by hosting Black Movie Mondays throughout the month. Each event will include multiple screenings of some of the best movies, and attendees are welcome to bring snacks. With a convenient location near these Richmond homes for sale and new movies on February 12 and 26, there are ample reasons to visit the Hull Street Branch this month.

  • Book Babies at the Main Branch - 101 E Franklin St, Richmond, VA 23219
It's never too early to introduce babies to the joy of books, and the weekly Book Babies program at the Richmond Public Library is a great opportunity to do so. Book Babies takes place every Tuesday at the Main Branch of the Richmond Public Library, with upcoming programs at 10:30 am on February 13, 20, and 27. Babies up to 17 months are welcome with their caregiver. Some of the other branches offer a similar program on different days of the week, so be sure to check each library's online calendar!

  • Valentine's Cards Craft Time at the North Avenue Branch - 2901 North Ave, Richmond, VA 23222
Head to the North Avenue Branch of the Richmond Public Library on Wednesday, February 14, for a fun Valentine's Day activity for kids aged 5 and up. Participants will have a chance to make their own Valentine's cards using paper doilies, construction paper, and other materials, all of which are provided. Valentine's Cards Craft Time takes place from 2 pm to 4 pm.

  • Master Gardener Help Desk at the Ginter Park Branch - 1200 Westbrook Ave, Richmond, VA 23227
If you want to learn about gardening in Richmond, this is your chance! On the third Thursday of every month, you can head to the Richmond Public Library's Ginter Park Branch to ask your questions to a Master Gardener volunteer from the Virginia Cooperative Extension. The next Master Gardener Help Desk takes place on Thursday, February 15, from 11 am to 1 pm, just in time to get your seedlings started!

  • Gellman Room Concerts at the Main Branch - 101 E Franklin St, Richmond, VA 23219
Since 1973, the Gellman Room in the Main Branch of the Richmond Public Library has been hosting live concerts that are open to the public free of charge. Highlighting genres ranging from classical to jazz, Gellman Room Concerts are held on Saturdays, usually once or twice a month during each season. The upcoming concert on Saturday, February 17, will feature poetry readings paired with parts of Peter Tchaikovsky's "The Seasons," which takes a journey across the calendar from January to June in musical form.
