When you're visiting Richmond homes for sale, you want to take the chance to learn all about the community. One way to really enjoy the spirit of Richmond is to visit its Museum District, truly one of a kind in the state.

No less than four world-class museums are situated right in this neighborhood, also known as the Upper Fan. You'll also find row homes and detached townhouses. Many of the buildings are striking examples of historic architectural styles, set off with majestic old-growth trees.

Throughout the Museum District, you'll also see many memorable examples of public art. Breathtaking murals await to be discovered around every corner. Exploring the District is a terrific way to spend a day that will give any history buff plenty of think about. Plus, there are family-friendly attractions, too!

Let's take a closer look at everything Richmond's Museum District has to offer:

  1. Virginia Museum of Fine Arts – 200 North Arthur Ashe Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23220
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is the premier cultural institution for preserving, celebrating, and promoting fine arts. Permanent collections span the globe and highlight a wide range of styles. One of the most popular exhibits is "Fabergé and the Russian Decorative Arts," a showcase of nearly 300 Fabergé objects like nothing else on display in the United States.
  2. Virginia Museum of History & Culture – 428 North Arthur Ashe Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23220
A beloved fixture of the Museum District, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture is dedicated to telling "The Story of Virginia for All Virginians." It has quickly become well-known for its outstanding virtual and digital art programs. Among its most prized long-term exhibits is Landscapes of Virginia, a curated experience of 21 landscape paintings that exult in the diverse terrain and climate of the state's five distinctive regions. While the museum is currently closed, you can stay up to date on their virtual programs here.
  3. Children's Museum of Richmond – 2626 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23220
Known for its award-winning interactive exhibits and educational programs, Children's Museum of Richmond is one of the leading museums of its kind in the United States. With two locations, including one in Richmond and another in nearby Midlothian, it will captivate and stimulate young minds with its dedication to learning through play. Every week, families can visit the Family Creation Station to make something to take home!
  4. Science Museum of Virginia – 2500 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23220

Newly popular is The Forge, a dedicated "makerspace" where kids can do hands-on, STEM-based building projects with the whole family. There's always something new to see and do!
  5. Scott's Addition Historic District – North of Museum District, See Website for Details
Scott's Addition Historic District is a great place to sample the local nightlife after a full day of learning. Adjoining the Museum District to the north, it is home to acclaimed restaurants, a boutique bowling alley, cinema, and much more. Once the industrial heart of Richmond, it underwent a renaissance starting in 2005 when the Scott's Addition Boulevard Association succeeded in winning its Historic District designation.
